Abstract

Textile industries in Bangladesh are increasingly moving toward eco-friendly fibers because of rising environmental awareness, stricter regulations, higher raw material costs, and growing demand for sustainable clothing. In this study, a sustainable tri-blend yarn was developed by using eco-viscose, recycled cotton, and modal. The eco-viscose was produced from a mix of Circulose and Ecovero pulp. Circulose is made from recycled textile waste and Ecovero comes from certified renewable wood sources. Virgin cotton was fully replaced by recycled cotton. Due to lower strength of recycled cotton, a small amount of modal was added to improve yarn strength and performance. Seven different blend ratios were selected using Minitab’s extreme vertices design. The samples were tested using the USTER Evenness Tester and Lea Yarn Strength Tester. The results showed that blends containing about 20% recycled cotton provided the best balance of quality and strength. Up to 25% recycled cotton was still suitable for knitting applications.
